Statement/Resume/Bio (100 words or less)I have a solo coming up in 2024 in my Boston gallery and I could use input on some ideas I have. I'm doing a small work-up and starting to experiment with materials. As usual I'm working with ideas and materials that I've never worked with before so there are technical issues as well as artistic issues. The work will be in the form of an installation.
Also, I'm feeling a bit stale in my practice and could use the stimulation of an artist community. We have regular meetings of artists in my gallery but we don't discuss the nitty-gritty of making the work.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))Two things: One, advance in my efforts to prepare for my solo and two, share what I'm working on aside from that.

Statement/Resume/Bio (100 words or less)
I identify as a ceramics figurative artist. Creating human or animal pieces allows me to discover emotional themes in my personal history: fear, anger, sadness, defiance, joy, doubt. The furrow of a brow, the arc of a smile, the tip of a tongue - a slight change in any of these features can tell dramatically different stories.
As I bring my sculptures to life, I am revealing my stories for all to experience. I hope that my practice in the art of ceramics inspires others to explore, understand, and share their stories as well.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))I have three goals in participating in this residency: being a member of an active, vibrant artist community; learning to approach my work more "loosely"; and creating a body of work that explores and incorporates different themes (Ie, social activism) into my existing practice.

Statement/Resume/Bio (100 words or less)Jasmine is a mixed-media artist living in San Antonio, Texas. Her work explores personal mythology through the lens of archetypes, symbolism, and storytelling. Through her creations, she identifies the turbulence in body and mind, which allows her to transform her anxieties and pain into a magical act of embodied meditation. She thrives on experimentation with varied mediums, including but not limited to paint, pastels, poetry, found objects, and everyday household items. The natural world, mythology, music, and contemporary poetry heavily influence her. She has worked as a youth art educator, a yoga and meditation teacher, and is now a homeschool educator for neurodivergent creative teens.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))Art has been a necessary hobby throughout my adult life. I want to use the Enso Circle to create a vision for myself as a working artist, transforming my hobby into a full-time artistic vocation as I prepare for my next life phase.

Being the daughter of a master welder, as a young child I was always intrigued by creating things. I learned to solder at 11 yrs. old and drew and painted throughout my life. I have explored many different medias but working with glass has always been my greatest fascination. It’s qualities are so unique and unpredictable the excitement of never knowing the end result propels me further in the exploration of what I can accomplish. The process leads me. I started with stained glass 35 years ago and have been working in fused glass for close to 20 years now.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))
I would like to find a focus, as I keep learning new techniques and feel very scattered most of the time in my studio.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? Statement/Resume/Bio (100 words or less)After working in administration at UT Austin for 25 years, I retired in 2013 to live in San Antonio and attend the Southwest School of Art's ceramic arts program. My primary focus has been using the shamanic archetype to express how the Earth perpetually resurrects new life from old forms. Although ceramics has been my primary medium for the past 10 years, I started out as a painter and printmaker (focusing on lithography and collography) when studying fine art at Youngstown State University in my youth, obtaining a BA in Education in 1971. An artist is a perpetual student of Life, always learning how craft is used to materialize ideas.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))I would like to experiment with blending ceramics and encaustic/collage techniques to continue using the shamanic metaphor that expresses how the Earth brings forth new life from decay.
Both Lyn and Michelle's work inspires me to delve into new materials as a means of expression to convey my ideas.
Statement/Resume/Bio (100 words or less)
I am an artist and educator with 31 years of experience teaching art at every level, primary through college. I have led therapeutic art lessons in hospital, nursing home, and recreational settings. My work as a museum and community workshop creator and teacher has been continuous since 1989. I have a B.S. degree in Art Education from LSU and an M.F.A. in Painting from G.W.U. My work is focused on describing images in which spiritual messages seem to be contained within physical settings. I aim to depict the thin veil between heaven and earth, between God’s voice and routine noise.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))
I am ready to shed expectations (set by myself and others, especially in regard to commissioned pieces) and allow my authentic self to be richly expressed through my work. As an art educator, I am very good at helping my students find their own voices. I’d like to discover a way to better utilize my own artistic voice. I know it’s there occasionally and can feel the difference when it is in control. The Enso Circle seems like the kind of group which may be able to assist me in this goal.
I just recently became a Certified Mindful and Meditative Art facilitator and the dream is to open a mindful art studio - allowing others to find peace through art. I still struggle greatly with my inner critic and self-judgement about not being an artist, just a little crafty. I have dedicated 2023 to learning and broadening my artistic skills and strengthening my confidence before embarking on teaching. I would be honored to be a part of this community and grow alongside other creators who understand the struggle to have an authentic artistic voice.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))
Lyn's Prayer Flag course was one of the most powerful I have ever taken - breaking all the molds on should's and shouldn'ts. The opportunity to continue to clarify and strengthen my artisitc voice, and walk away a confident artist with a unique persepective would be truly wonderful.
Becoming a member of an artisitc community would be a tremendous bonus. Thank you for considering my application.
Statement/Resume/Bio (100 words or less)I am a life long multi media artist & writer. A series of unfortunate events had me thrown off my trajectory into a place of trauma freeze. I was unable to create, to articulate or express myself…this was also stillness; a more positive frame in which to situate my place of inaction. I decided to go back to my interest in trauma- in particular freeze state… I am working toward an eventual Phd in flow state and Expressive Art Therapy (my profession) - the river that still courses under the still ice. The place of healing, regulation. I’ve been unable to approach this work intellectually. I’ve been approaching it through artography. I discovered painting with fire and enrolled but couldn’t watch, couldn’t try. Until recently… something shifted. The warm encaustics become excavations of light. Layering. Unlayering. The thaw… this is my in. Into my thesis, into my healing, into understanding the art through my art…
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE THREE-MONTH RESIDENCY AT THE ENSO CIRCLE? (50 WORDS or less))I will be part of a community to further my exploration and grow as an artist while also, hopefully, contributing to the world of encaustic and my thesis— based in my professional world of Expressive Arts Therapy. I hope to continue to learn the skills necessary to grow and develop as an encaustic artist while also being part of this holistic wheel of creation and connection.
My images are few- I have only begun the deep dive into encaustic. But it’s predicated on my layering and unlayering and layering, etc etc. Moving frozen to flow… memory and subversion
and manipulation of memory by collaging my own photographs, burying in the warm wax so that it becomes it’s own frozen landscape, then excavating light. I am drawn to golds, to the glow and shimmer of hope…
